An exhibition of works based on personal experience.Footwear
Curator Mel Watkin states, ” ‘The Tell-Tale Heart,’ was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s image of a heart beating under the floor boards–beating in a rhythm so persistent that it could not be ignored.” This show was a major catalyst in the mix that has made my artist-life possible. Mel saw my work in WPA’s DC, MD, VA Open Studio event and it was an amazing experience working with Mel and WPA in developing my part of this national exhibition that included James Luna, Pat Ward Williams and Ken Little. WPA gave incredible support to each of us. WPA was the catalyst and the work I did for the show led to a DCCAH Artist’s Fellowship and a teaching job at the Corcoran College of Art + Design the following year.
Thanks goes to artist and then WPA board member Lynn Schmidt for the many treks to artist’s studios she made during the Open Studios. It was Lynn who initially saw my work and selected it for the auction where I assume Mel Watkin first saw my work.
